Cosmarium superbum Taylor

Remarks: Irénée-Marie 1956 described a var. decoratum where every granule is surrounded by 6 triangular depressions, producing an iridescent effect (see pictures below). Taylor did not mention this in his original description, but it cannot ruled out that this is a form of optical illusion that arises from the regular alternation of granules and pore fields, that is more visible in a certain microscopical setting than in another.
